Golf in Rome – Wanted in Rome

Everything you need to know about golf courses in Rome.

If you’re looking to trade fountains for fairways and plazas for greens, Rome is a great city to play golf in.

In addition to enjoying the luxury of the best golf resorts in Rome, you can always combine your favorite sport with sightseeing.

At the following clubs, Roman ruins and castles provide the backdrop for the perfect round of golf.

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club

What better place to play than on a green with a breathtaking view of the Dome of Saint-Pierre, then, on the second hole, an 11and century castle and a beautiful lake?

This club, which offers a championship 18-hole Par 72 and a nine-hole Par 65 course, will host the 2022 Ryder Cup in Italy.

Open all year round, practice visitors can also enjoy the two terraces.

Rome Park

This club is located in the park of Veio, which is part of the green belt of Rome.

Again, a castle – the medieval castle of Torcrescenza – and St. Peter’s Dome are both visible from the course, while a natural stream crosses the green from a small waterfall nearby.

It is one of the most scenic courses in the region and an excellent location for a day of golf.

As the site of the Technical Center of the Italian Golf Federation, it is the academy and qualification course to become a professional golfer in Italy.

Not for novices, this club really hits a hole in one when it comes to quality.

Parco de’ Medici Golf Club

Named after Pope Leo X of the Medici family, this club is located in southern Rome in an area called Magliana Vecchia.

Although Lorenzo the Magnificent was not known as such for his putting prowess, the site of his former hunting lodge is now home to this sophisticated course and the Sheraton Golf Hotel & Resort.

Olgiata Golf and Country Club

This club is one of the most exclusive in Rome, inside a gated community.

Visitors can enjoy its classic tree-lined championship golf course, elegant clubhouse and riding club.

Castel Gandolfo Country Club

Just 24 km southeast of Rome, Castel Gandolfo is a great place to escape the sweltering summer heat of the city.

And this club is also steeped in history. The clubhouse is a 17th century villa built for Cardinal Flavio Chigi, nephew of Pope Alexander VII.

But who cares about his papal connections when you discover the golf course is located inside the crater of a volcano.
