IMPACT used my social media activity to change my character

Rob van dam is a living legend, having appeared in ECW, WWE and TNA / IMPACT Wrestling.

His second run with IMPACT ended in September 2020, but in many ways it shaped his characterization, both on screen and in real life. While “The Whole Dam Show” was once a fan favorite star, its heel turn in 2019 and subsequent association with his real girlfriend, Katie Forbes took the character of RVD in a whole new direction. He regularly appeared with a scantily clad Forbes and flaunted his lavish lifestyle.

In a controversial scene, Van Dam, Forbes and his girlfriend Jennifer Barlow celebrated the success of the former champion by kissing each other while covered in whipped cream, and parts of the body had to be blurred. This segment was apparently responsible for Twitch’s temporary ban on IMPACT, as it violated the streaming platform’s guidelines for sexual content. Needless to say, this version of RVD was drastically different from what fans were used to seeing.

During a recent appearance on Preview with Chris Van Vliet, Rob Van Dam looked back at how the general fan perception of him has changed over the years, and he linked that trend to how IMPACT booked his character based on his social media activity. While he was already posting photos and videos of these wild parties anyway, once IMPACT took notice, RVD described how it felt as if the company had taken aspects of these posts and had them. used for his presentation of the scenario.

“I definitely [been] starring since Katie Forbes, you know that, for sure. And she’s a party girl, you know, she’s fun and she’s awesome… We took a Cardi B cruise, Katie loves Cardi B, which if you’ve ever seen a video of Cardi B and seen all that Katie publishes, then you shouldn’t be surprised. She loves to shake ass and that makes her happy, so I’m glad she’s happy.

“And we saw Cardi B in Miami when we went there, before the cruise, then the next night she was on the cruise and we were on the ship. So that was pretty cool and this really big producer… as a fan he VIPed me and told me to come down and hang out in his jacuzzi. And we were, and it was just filled with all these ass shaking girls and stuff, and we posted a video of that. It went viral, and that’s when I learned how much IMPACT was following our social media, because IMPACT then started writing that kind of stuff in the script, stuff about that or stuff about our friend Jennifer, and in particular putting stuff in there that no one would know unless they follow us on social media.
