KZN South Coast offers tourists the best outdoor activities this summer!

âWhile all of our tourism establishments are aware of the new COVID-19 variant and its potential impact, Ugu South Coast Tourism (USCT) encourages adherence to the strictest safety protocols to ensure the safety of our tourists while on vacation. ‘summer,’ explained Phelisa Mangcu, CEO of USCT.

The Blue Flag beaches
The south coast of KZN is home to the most Blue Flag beaches in the province, including the beaches of Hibberdene, Umzumbe, Southport, Ramsgate, Marina and Trafalgar. It is an internationally recognized certification indicating the high level of quality, safety, environmental education, services and environmental management. In addition, the south coast of KZN has the largest number of tidal pools offering protected swimming along the coast.
Stretching from Umkomaas to the rugged coast and inland to Harding, there are 11 quality golf courses on the ‘Golf Coast’. Among them are Selborne Park Golf Estate, one of the best residential golf courses in the country; Southbroom Golf Club, one of the area’s most popular courses; and the Wild Coast Sun Country Club which is one of the top 10 courses in the country.

Diving, fishing and ocean safaris
Further offshore, there is a whole world to explore. Here visitors can find two marine protected areas (MPAs) – Aliwal Shoal off Umkomaas and Protea Banks off Shelly Beach. With the abundance of marine life, these are considered two of the best sites in the world for scuba divers, snorkelers and snorkelers. For angling enthusiasts there are plenty of possibilities for spearfishing, deep sea fishing or rock and surf fishing. There are also many charter boats that take visitors for a close-up oceanic experience watching migrating dolphins and whales.
For those who like to live on the edge, the KZN South Coast is a thrill seekers’ paradise! Wild5Adventures at Oribi Gorge has the Wild Gorge Swing, the tallest swing of its kind that takes visitors down 55 stories. There is also the 80-meter suspension bridge some 130 meters above the ground; Epic whitewater rafting and zipline through the Oribi Gorge. Another exciting place for an African adventure is the Lake Eland Game Reserve, with its wild inhabitants and great views.
Visitors can experience the local culture outdoors with the Great Drives Out experiences. These authentic rural hinterland excursions include the adventures of the KwaXolo Caves, a mountainside hike along a system of cables and rungs to the caves adorned with ancient San artwork. . The KwaNzimakwe Multi-Trails is a beautiful network of Mpenjati Nature Reserve and just inland from Shelly Beach is the Nyandezulu Experience, a guided tour through Ntantana Mountain. Local history can be learned at the Ntelezi Msani Heritage Center, an establishment that addresses African history, indigenous knowledge, culture and the creative arts.
Cycling, running, walking and 4 Ã 4 tracks
Get out and be active in the nature reserves and farmlands of the southern KZN coast, whether mountain biking, running, hiking, or embarking on a 4 Ã 4 excursion. Some of the area’s best outdoor adventure spots include Rocky Bay Resorts, Burry Stander Bike Park, 5. ANEW Resort Ingeli Forest, Beaver Creek Coffee Estate, and Clearwater Trails.
Bird watching and picnic
Enjoy a #Family Adventure in one of KZN’s many south coast nature reserves – ideal spaces for bird watching before stopping for a scenic picnic. The region is a renowned birding destination, home to a number of unique species to check off the list. These can be spotted in TC Robertson Nature Reserve, Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve, Oribi Vulture Viewing Hide, Ventures by Sweetdale, and Red Desert Nature Reserve, among others.
