Expanding Payments Choice January 2022 - Find out how offering on-demand payments can help businesses keep employees and contractors engaged and satisfied

Instant payouts were on the rise in 2021, with nearly three times as many consumers receiving an instant payout last year compared to 2020, while 17% of consumers received at least one instant payout. Instant disbursements could overtake automated clearing house (ACH) payments as the most popular disbursement method in the United States this year, in fact, as 37% of consumers were familiar with instant payments in 2021 compared to nearly 25% in 2020, according to PYMNTS research.

Demand is increasing as individuals realize the benefits of instant payments, but not just for consumers. From small businesses doing business-to-business (B2B) transactions to payroll services issuing paychecks, many industries see a growing need for payment options that make payouts faster, safer and easier. Even insurance organizations are exploring options as varied as Zelle, PayPal, Venmo and push-to-card methods to settle claims, reduce costs and ensure policyholders receive money in a timely manner.

This month’s Deep Dive research examines how the changing perception of digital disbursements is reshaping demand for how transactions are conducted, as well as the challenges companies face in providing disbursement choice.

The need for faster payment options in the B2B market

The pandemic has hit the 31.7 million small businesses that Craft up to 99.9% of all US businesses hard and slow payouts didn’t help. Among small business owners, 59% have experimented late payments from larger customers, businesses, public sector and non-profit organizations, and 25% received payments 20-30 days late. Forty-seven percent of owners have seen an increase in issues with large business late payments throughout the pandemic, and 78% of small businesses have experienced a drop in revenue in 2020 and 46% have had to reduce their workforce.

Not all of these cash flow issues were directly related to the pandemic, however, with 44% of small businesses saying late payments from other entities were negatively affecting their business. The effect trickled down to employees, with 40% of small businesses delaying hiring or planning to do so due to late payments, while 39% delayed inventory purchases and 36% cut hours for employees. employees for the same reason. Conversely, 64% of small businesses said faster payments would allow them to invest in their business, and 58% said they would be able to repay loans or pay down lines of credit faster. .

When it comes to employee payments, workers between the ages of 18 and 44 don’t just want to get their paychecks fast; they want them immediately, with 83% saying they should have access to their earned wages at the end of each workday or shift rather than waiting for payday. Beyond end-of-shift disbursements, 80% of employees would prefer to see funds automatically disbursed to their bank accounts as they are earned. On-demand pay could improve loyalty by 78%, and 79% said they would feel more valued as employees if paid this way. In terms of competition for talent, 81% would be more likely to choose an employer based on the availability of on-demand compensation provided at no cost to the employee. companies have done strides payroll modernization, and 61% of payroll systems were cloud-based in 2021.

Instant payment interest is not limit Neither do traditional employees, and gig workers – often driven by a lack of savings and a need for available funds – also want to be paid faster, with 45% saying they would like to be paid daily or on demand. Another 45% of gig workers would like to be paid at least once a week. This growing demand has been accompanied by innovations in the way workers are paid, from the use of Visa Direct and Mastercard Send by payroll services to the increase in the number of providers offering access to earned wages, which which allows workers to access wages they have earned but not yet received. .

Relieve human resources

Digital solutions to offer workers the opportunity to be more effective and efficient in many different processes, and digital disbursements are no exception. In addition to the efficiencies that can be achieved through modernizing payroll practices, businesses can also benefit from digital disbursements with respect to off-cycle payments, such as reimbursement for travel or home office expenses. to employees, as well as when processing payments to workers and suppliers. that are not part of normal payroll operations. A process that involves issuing thousands of paper checks can be made more manageable with digital disbursements, allowing for reduced oversight and man-hours.

Faster, modernized payment practices can free up HR and finance teams to focus on other priorities while helping to ensure employee and customer satisfaction. HR departments can spend more time on initiatives to engage and support employees, finance professionals can spend their time identifying potential ways to improve their company’s finances rather than making payments, and beneficiaries at all levels can receive money in the way that suits them best. and without delays or taking overtime from employees.

Wherever you are in Freiburg, you can feel the attraction of the mountains and the forest. The southern German city, a beacon of progress and sustainability, exudes an energetic vibe that runs through cobblestone and historic streets ‘Bächle’ gutters. The entourage Schwarzwald (Black Forest) draws you into its enchanting trails, and Schauinsland Mountain creates a spectacular backdrop against the medieval old town.

So it’s no surprise that the best activities in Freiburg are to be found outdoors. Of a quiet sonntagsspaziergang (Sunday hike) to an intrepid snowshoe adventure, this Black Forest town has something for everyone and all fitness levels. And don’t worry about the weather – as the Germans firmly believe, there is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing.

So put on your boots and grab those hiking poles, because here are the best outdoor activities for kids, adventurers and adrenaline junkies in Freiburg.

Hike on the Black Forest trail Westweg

If the Grimm brothers have captured your imagination with stories like Hansel and Gretel inspired by the Black Forest, take time to immerse yourself in its magic on a multi-day hike along the famous Black Forest trail Westweg. It’s hard to get lost with the red triangles marking the 177 mi (285 km) trail, and you can choose between sections with low, rolling hills that aren’t too intense for the knees, or more challenging peaks that climb Feldberg mountain. In addition to the dense pine forest, you will pass through open countryside, sunny meadows, orchards and dairy farms, as well as ruins, tiny medieval towns and complete the fairy tale.

Dive into Lake Dietenbach

As Freiburg is a good seven hours from the nearest beach, locals instead head to the nearby lakes to cool off. From May to September, the water in Dietenbachsee is warm enough for swimming. There are also play areas to occupy the little ones, beach volleyball courts, table tennis tables and a skate park. The lake is also suitable for a relaxing walk in winter, just 20 minutes by tram number 3 from the old town of Freiburg.

Cool off at Opfinger See

Opfinger See, about 10 km west of Freiburg, is another popular place to relax on a hot summer day. This natural body of water is kept cool in the surrounding forest of Mooswald. Get there early to find a spot on the lawn for sunbathing, and bring supplies if you want to enjoy the barbecues scattered around the shore.

Hike on the Markgräfler wine route

A popular long-distance trail for travelers who enjoy hiking with an accompaniment of wine is the 84 km (52 mi) Markgräfler Wiiwegli (wine route). You can choose to hike the entire trail over 3-4 days, staying in hostels along the way, or if you’re short on time, tackle the first section from Sankt Georgen to Staufen for a decent day hike . Winding through the wine regions of the southern Black Forest and the French border, the trail is relatively flat and well paved.

In the fall, the landscape is brushed with golden and amber hues, turning it into an impressionist’s dream. You will also find many Straußwirtschaften (seasonal wine taverns) open in the fall and spring, providing a welcome break for hungry hikers to enjoy the latest harvest and a hot snack. Just look for a broom hanging on the front that indicates they are open for business.

Quiet snowshoeing in Schauinsland

While the nearby ski resort of Feldberg offers fairly decent ski and snowboard runs, it’s also a busy place. So get away from the busy ski lifts and spend time exploring nature as you glide down Schauinsland Mountain on snowshoes. The sport is growing in popularity for the freedom and tranquility it offers, as well as for its assertion as the healthiest sport in the world. The glide movement provides a full body workout that strengthens your heart and muscles, without the impact or risk associated with other cardio workouts, while still breathing in the fresh mountain air. All the equipment you need can be hired in the mountains for around € 50 ($ 56) for a week between November and March. The Schauinsland 15 km red trail is a great place to learn the ropes.

Downhill mountain biking

A city full of biking freaks means a forest full of great mountain biking trails. Pros and absolute beginners alike will find well-groomed, rock-free trails. The terrain is fluid as opposed to steep, which allows for a fairly quick ride. Head to Dreisam Football Stadium to try the jumps on the thrilling ‘Baden to the bone’ trail. You may encounter snow in the dead of winter, but otherwise mountain biking is definitely considered a year round sport in this part of the world. ATV rental starts at € 25 ($ 27) per day from Radstation next to the train station in town.

Tobogganing in Schauinsland

While you try out the snowshoes, young and old will love the thrill of sledding. One of the most famous toboggan runs is at the top of Schauinsland. Hop on the Horben cable car and hire your sled at the top. Next, prepare for the rapid 300m (920ft) descent. Rinse and repeat until your hands, feet or lungs cannot take any more.

Watch the sunset over the rooftops of Freiburg

According to locals, Eichhalde is the best place to watch the sunset over the rooftops of Freiburg. This hill on Eichhalde Street has a few benches scattered around the open field, so pack a picnic or a bottle of wine and make yourself comfortable. It’s a short half hour walk into town, or an easy bike ride, but away from the crowds.

Otherwise, stay in town and join the cool kids sipping beers on the blue steel Wiwilíbrücke bridge next to the main train station. The view might not be as good, but the people watching are top notch.

Take the Höllentalbahn to Titisee

If you are looking for a perfect day in the Black Forest, this is the one for you. Departing from Friborg main station every half hour, the Höllentalbahn train journey into the depths of the Black Forest on one of the steepest railways in Germany. If you’re there in July, August or December, you can even catch the historic steam train which makes a special appearance on the route. Take in views of small towns and forest as you make your way to Titisee. This popular lake has lakeside cafes and restaurants, rental pedal boats, and a pleasant hour-long hiking trail around its perimeter.

Explore the Ravenna Gorge

If you have wheels, don’t miss a day trip to Ravennaschlucht (Ravenna Gorge), 30 minutes drive from town. The leisurely 4 km (2.5 mi) hike follows the windy gorge path through a valley of waterfalls, mossy trails, wooden walkways, and historic aqueducts.

In December, the imposing vaulted vault Ravennabrücke (the bridge) lights up as it hosts one of the region’s most magical Christmas markets. Warm up with a steaming glühwein as you browse through delicate Christmas decorations, woolen scarves and mittens and cuckoo clocks, synonymous with the region.

Ride the Hasenhorn slide

Another outdoor activity easily accessible by car is the Hasenhorn Rodelbahn (Sled). Germany’s longest toboggan run, you’ll be descending the loop trail in about three minutes and you’ll want to start all over again. For the ultimate thrill, follow the operator’s instructions and don’t brake! A race costs € 10 ($ 11) for adults and includes the ascent by chairlift.

It’s no secret that spending time outdoors has many benefits, such as soothing mental and physical injuries. Unfortunately, many students still spend most of their time indoors. Over time, we become even less eager to venture outside our homes and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. More than ever, it is crucial that we expose ourselves to our planet and all it has to offer, especially outdoor activities!

Spending quality time outdoors has been shown to improve focus and mood while reducing stress levels. Plus, participating in the outdoors can provide much-needed exercise, promote a healthy sleep schedule, and increase your body’s ability to absorb vitamin D, an essential nutrient that helps your body obtain vital minerals. To be outside can also be a social activity that allows you to connect with more people in your community.

Since being outdoors is practically a prescription for better health, you should feel inclined to put down your cell phone and soak up the sun. I’ve compiled a list of the best outdoor activities for students that are both enjoyable and healthy. These activities will not only allow you to come into contact with yourself but also with nature.

1. Hiking

Hiking is one of the best outdoor activities that students can participate in because it can improve mental and physical health, which all students can benefit from. For example, hiking is great for your cardiovascular health because it has been shown to reduce high blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Even a light hike can improve your endurance, aerobic fitness, balance, and muscle building capacity. Likewise, hiking can benefit your mental health by relieving stress, boosting your self-esteem, and improving the quality of your sleep.

Also, don’t feel like you have to start your hike with a huge and difficult trail; rather, it is best to start with easy paths that give your body time to adjust to this new activity. Once you’ve given your body a chance to become more familiar with hiking, you’ll be able to walk longer, faster, and harder without feeling completely out of breath.

2. Fruit picking

Whether you are doing this activity alone or in a group, selecting your own fresh, seasonal produce is a great way to relax and surround yourself with nature. Personally, I like to go apple picking with my family on weekends, when I have the most free time. I have noticed that fruit picking has dramatically reduced my stress level and allowed me to get in touch with the beautiful people around me.

I would recommend finding a local farm in your area – a quick google search will make this possible. When you engage in fruit picking, not only will you be able to nourish your body with healthy foods, but you will also be supporting local farms with your purchases. Not to mention that in most farms, entry and parking are completely free. Don’t miss the opportunity to harvest your own healthy fruits and vegetables.

3. Swimming

It’s a great activity that can be as strenuous or as calm as you want it to be. If you don’t feel like swimming long laps in the pool, you can just dip your feet in the water and bask in the glow of the sun. Swimming is not only an amazing exercise, but also a very relaxing and inexpensive activity.

For students, finding a pool to swim in is usually not a difficult task. If you don’t have an easily accessible pool on your campus, you can do some research to determine where the nearest community pool is in your area. A body of water, such as a lake, river, pond, or ocean, is another viable option if you live nearby. If none of these resources are feasible for you, you can buy a kiddie pool for as little as $ 10 on Amazon and recreate your favorite childhood memories.

4. Painting and other outdoor artistic activities

Painting is definitely a relaxing project that can reassure you and help you feel more anchored. Grab an easel, paint, and canvas and step outside. If you don’t feel like painting, there are many other art activities you can enjoy outdoors, such as knitting, drawing, scrapbooking, and jewelry making. Painting outdoors can help freshen your mind and boost your creativity. It will allow you to breathe some fresh air, hear birdsong and feel a gentle breeze on your face. In other words, you will become more in touch with your surroundings.

I would recommend placing your easel in front of a naturalistic scene that you admire. Once you’ve found a spot you like, draw it and then paint it, trying to incorporate as much detail as possible into your artwork. Being outside, as opposed to a restrictive confined space, will increase your awareness of the world.

5. Yoga

Yoga is popular for a reason. I have been practicing outdoor yoga since I was in college and am happy to say that each session has tremendously improved both my mood and my flexibility. Yoga itself has many benefits, but when combined with the outdoors, the benefits become even more evident. Practicing yoga in an outdoor setting puts you in tune with nature, which results in a relaxed and renewed state. It also increases your focus and replenishes any depleted energy. Not to mention that when you practice yoga outdoors, you will never encounter the obstacle of competing for floor space. Physically, practicing yoga outdoors improves your balance and coordination.

If you are used to practicing your yoga indoors, changing your setting will allow you to push your limits, which will also boost your self-confidence. That being said, what are you waiting for? Grab a rug, slip on your sneakers and step out into the dazzling world we call our home.

Trying out some of these outdoor activities can be the perfect way to improve your physical and mental health before the start of the new school semester.

Manchester is a village in southern Vermont and one of the most charming towns, easily accessible by car from New York and Boston. The sidewalks are made of marble because in the 1800s the local quarry had large stone shops. The sidewalks are still in place today. History is palpable as you wander the streets where the Marsh Tavern once stood. It is now the magnificent Equinox Golf Resort & Spa. Yet this was the site where American revolutionaries known as the Green Mountain Boys plotted to fight the British. As you survey the landscape, you’ll see Mount Equinox rise 3,800 feet behind the resort, the highest peak in the Taconic Range. The Equinox Preservation Trust protects the land and Mount Equinox. It is a beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors in any season. Activities such as hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are open to the public in winter.

With all this talk about the mountains, there are two ski resorts a short drive from Manchester. Bromley is 10 km away and Stratton is 17 miles from the city center. Both offer fantastic alpine experiences, but are preferred for different reasons. Bromley offers some of the best downhill adventures for families. Stratton has thrills for adventure seekers on skis or snowboards, as well as a Nordic center for alternative activities like cross country, tubing or fat tire biking. If motorized speed is your passion, snowmobile tours offer thrills. Or, for a relaxed ride, a sleigh experience could be more than you imagined. Manchester has a lot to offer all year round, but in winter it is a snow lover’s paradise. Here are seven exciting options for outdoor activities in no specific order when the white flakes start to swirl.

1. Bromley

Bromley, or “Sun Mountain,” offers an award-winning ski program for kids and family. The trails all head towards the central base area so no one can get lost on opposite sides of the mountain or struggle to reconnect with their group. The reason it is called Sun Mountain is because of the warm southerly exposure that adorns the slopes. The sunny skies help keep everyone warm enough to enjoy a fun day of skiing. With 47 runs, there is a variety of challenges for every skier. Bromley also has two snow parks, friendly instructors and helpful staff. When hunger strikes, there are delicious dining options. This resort is a favorite with locals for a reason.

2. Stratton

Stratton was named one of the Ski review“20 best ski resorts on the east coast in 2022”. This historic mountain was the birthplace of snowboarding, as it was the first resort to allow snowboarders on its ski lifts. It is also the home of Vermont’s first World Cup ski races. It is the perfect mountain for beginners and more advanced skiers. I brought my kids when they started learning to ski and the instructors were excellent. The terrain combines beginner to expert slopes with 99 runs, including a green top to bottom run. It’s a long, fantastic experience and a fabulous way to enjoy a great day of skiing in Vermont. There is something for every member of the family to do here, even if they are not skiers or snowboarders.

The Stratton Mountain Nordic Center has 12 km of groomed trails for cross-country skiing, fat biking and snowshoeing. In the center, you can sign up for snowshoe excursions where you can experience the green mountain view and the beauty of the pine forest in the early morning, afternoon or evening with a Nordic Lights excursion.

The Coca-Cola Tube Park has four snow tubing lanes served by ski lifts. This activity is family fun at its best with a heated hut, snacks, and fire pits on specific days. It’s fun to take a break from the slopes and the tube for an afternoon.

3. Equinox Preserve Trust

The Equinox Preserve Trust sits on the east side of Mount Equinox and consists of 914 acres of protected land and a pond open to the public year round. There are 11 miles of hiking and biking trails that range from easy to complex, including a steep climb to the top. If you are up for a winter hike or bike ride, the trails are marked and maintained. They also accept dogs, with pets on a leash. Download the map from the website or pick up a map at the kiosk near the trailhead. Bikers should avoid single track trails such as Snicket and Trout Lily as they do not make cycle lanes. Also, make sure you have the right gear for the weather, including a hat, gloves, and proper footwear. Flatlanders Pass at Pond Loop Trail is easy and a fun hike. The Blue Summit Trail is a long climb that goes all the way to the top. It is difficult but offers great views.

4. Land Rover experience at Equinox

The Land Rover experience teaches drivers how to drive safely. Depending on the package you choose, you’ll increase your knowledge by covering the basics of expedition-style driving and mastering the obstacles you’ll find in off-road situations. You will learn how to climb steep climbs and descend steep descents. Participants will experience icy side slopes, log and water crossings, rocky ramps and boulders by car. This thrilling adventure includes an expert instructor as a field guide at the Land Rover Experience Driving Center at Equinox Golf Resort & Spa in Manchester. You’ll be behind the wheel of a Land Rover vehicle (or bring your own) for an hour, two hours, half a day, a full day, or a range of choices (viewed on their website). A valid driver’s license and credit card are required to participate.

5. Taylor Farm Sleigh Rides

Taylor Farm offers sleigh rides for that “real taste of Vermont”. Each sled can hold up to 10 adults and the rides last a glorious 45 minutes. Each sleigh experience includes a fireside stop to sip hot cider. Then you can get back on board to snuggle up under a warm woolen blanket. Would it be more romantic? The farm shop has s’mores firebreak marshmallow roasting kits to purchase before departure, or you can purchase cheese and snacks as a picnic nibble for the ride. At the store, you’ll find items made in Vermont, such as real maple syrup and homemade loaves of bread, honey, local meats, and CBD products. There are also food bags for the farm animals. After the ride, you can spend time with the chickens, goats and cows for as long as you want. One must reserve. Call Mimi on the phone number on the website to reserve your coveted spot.

6. Hildene

Hildene is the historic home of Robert Lincoln, the son of Abraham and Mary Todd, who survived to adulthood. Robert built Hildene in 1905 with his wife, Mary. He fondly recalled his visit to Manchester while staying at the Equinox Hotel in 1864 with his mother and brother Tad. Robert loved it so much that he returned to build his summer residence, calling it his “ancestral home” on 412 acres forty years later. He was the president of the Pullman Company, the country’s largest manufacturing company. While the Georgian Revival-style mansion is open year round for tours, the grounds are a wonderful place to go snowshoeing. Rentals are available (for a fee) in the lodge adjacent to the Visitor Center. Twelve miles of trails are open (conditions permitting) for walkers and cross-country skiers, but skiers must bring their equipment. The courses are natural and ungroomed, and if you are not a member of Hildene, you must pay an entrance fee to use the courses. Check the website for conditions to make sure the trails are open and accessible. Make sure you dress appropriately for the weather.

7. Adventures in the mountains of Vermont

Vermont Mountain Adventures is a backcountry snowmobile company that rents snowmobiles, certified helmets, and a professional guide for 2 hour tours. Tours take place every day, 7 days a week, unless the weather conditions cause a cancellation. But even if it snows, Polaris Indy LXT snowmobiles are shiny and ready to go. It is recommended that you contact Vermont Mountain Adventures at least one day before the desired excursion to ensure that you get a time slot. All tours have guides. There will be one guide for four snowmobiles. Passengers can be up to five years old, but any driver must have a valid driver’s license. If you are a passenger and have a driver’s license, you can change and drive if you want. Everyone must arrive fully dressed for the remote winter conditions for a 2 hour tour. Due to current conditions, no clothing is available for hire. Private tours are available at an additional cost. Suppose you want a starlight or sunset tour. In this case, its sister company, Stratton Adventures, located at Stratton Mountain Resort, offers these tours for a truly unique experience.

Pro tip: To be dressed appropriately for snowmobiling, you should wear winter snow pants, ski gloves, chunky winter boots, and a winter snow jacket. If you have a helmet, it should be a DOT approved helmet that says it is DOT certified.

Escape Colder Climates

Heading to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach is one of the best ways to escape the colder northern weather. If you live in a climate where snow blankets the courses throughout the winter months, a trip to the Gulf Coast is a no-brainer.

Not only will you be able to escape the cold, but you can also play on a variety of excellent courses. The winter months are the perfect time to sample all that the Gulf Coast has to offer as they are often quieter and offer cheaper green fees. Additionally, the winter season on the Gulf Coast is different from other destinations, as the climate often allows golfers from all corners of the globe to play year-round.

Local greenkeepers will use the winter months to improve the course, but that shouldn’t take away from the quality of conditions that golfers can enjoy throughout the off season.

So even on the coldest days, you can head to the range and quickly hit a bucket of balls before heading home and still feel like you’ve done enough to keep your swing under control.
