The renovated Seaton Carew Golf Club lounge dedicated to the golf family

A GOLF club renamed the clubhouse bar in honor of a family who have supported the club since its inception in 1874.

The Seaton Carew Golf Club has renamed its completely renovated bar area “The Bunting Lounge” to celebrate the long association of a proud family approaching 150 years.

Family and friends of the Buntings were in attendance as club members and their committee gathered to mark the occasion.

Derek Bunting and Seaton Carew President Mick Chalk unveiled a plaque to commemorate his name change to “The Bunting Lounge”.

Derek, 89, who now lives near Formby Golf Club in Lancashire, then headed to the first hole to play on the links where his brother Edward was such a respected figure before he passed away in November of the year last.

Edward was a two-time captain at Seaton Carew, in 1975 and 2000 and, like his father and brother Derek, was an active member of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.

Seaton Carew captain Norman Bagley said: “When Edward passed away and left his legacy to the club, we had to recognize him in a way that very few are.

“This club is almost 150 years old, so historically to confer salon status on its name, these things are generational. He would have loved to be there to see it.

“Edward and his family have served the club incredibly over the years. With the salon named after the Buntings, people will always come to ask questions about Edward and his family.

In his unveiling speech, Derek Bunting said, “I joined Seaton Carew when I was 14 years old.

“We had just come out of the war, so there was barbed wire around because it was a possible invasion beach.

“The club has done the Bunting family the great honor of naming this magnificent club room the Bunting Lounge in recognition of our family’s deep involvement in the history of the club.

“Edward loved this club. Golf was his life. ”
