Vale Golf paramedics spring into action for mental health charity

Two paramedics from Vale of Leven Hospital are hoping to raise money for a charity that helps support blue light workers after the pandemic.

Longtime colleagues Wayne Dalton and Raymond Fleming host a day of golf at the Vale of Leven Golf Club in support of mental health charity Mind.

And Wayne explained that the charity’s support of relief workers during the pandemic was the reason they chose to support them.

Wayne told the reporter, “The past two years have been extremely difficult for everyone, so we thought it would be great to get together with some of our colleagues and extend the invitation to other 999 services. and to the public.

“A lot of our friends loved socializing as a way to relax, but of course the pandemic put a stop to that. So people had a hard time finding that downtime. We thought this would be the perfect opportunity to use this downtime to do something good and hopefully raise awareness.

“We chose Mind because it has a lot of projects going on, including the Blue Light Together project for emergency services which is very close to our hearts.”

The 54-year-old shared a little snippet of what it was like working as a paramedic during the Covid pandemic.

He added: “We’re still prepared for the flu, but it was a whole new ballgame. At first we were really quiet because people were terrified of leaving their homes, but now we are the busiest ever.

“We just had to keep going with things. I wouldn’t say we got used to it. But we knew we had to keep going. »

Now he is looking forward to a good turnout for the June 10 event – anyone who wants to take the course for a good cause is welcome.

However, he is also keen to hear from local businesses that could help support the tournament.

He added: “Vale of Leven Golf Club have been very, very supportive of the plans.

“But we are also looking for local businesses that want to get involved by sponsoring the day, sponsoring a hole or doing what they can. Anything would be appreciated.
